Do you feel nervous about your upcoming tooth extraction? If so, our dental team is happy to tell you that this doesn’t have to be the case. There are things you can do to eliminate your anxiety while you’re in the dental chair. This can help you have a successful and positive appointment. Our dentist, Dr. Michael Shnayder, would love to tell you what you can do.
First, tell us about how you feel. It’s hard for us to help you if we don’t know you have anxiety. By telling us about your nerves, we will be able to do everything we can to make you feel as relaxed as possible during your appointment. We will also be extremely gentle when treating your smile.
Second, consider dental sedation. This can be very helpful because dental sedation can help you feel comfortable and relaxed. In fact, it might even help you sleep through the treatment! Dental sedation is a sedative, like Valium, that can help you stay calm. The most common types of sedatives are oral sedation, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and IV sedation. Feel free to ask our team which sedatives we offer at our office.
Third, establish a stop signal with your dentist. This stop signal could be anything like raising your hand, tapping your armrest, blinking quickly, or making a certain sound. Doing these things can tell your dentist you need a little break.
